And because I like to elaborate…
This is me then…and now. Then was November 2010. Now, each day gets better and better.
Before I dropped 85 pounds in six months I had tried many plans for much of my life. I wasn’t really looking because nothing ever worked long term. I’d decided to just love my 235 pound body as it was. In fact, I’d loved it right into every 3 months visits to the doctor’s office and was dangerously close to adding meds to my diet to manage my triglycerides and other health concerns that were creeping in. (It was this dysfunctional love, really. I get that now.)
Then a friend approached me and told me he had dropped forty pounds over the summer. He told me he’d had a health coach and he’d be mine. My doctor also mentioned she was a health coach on this program. Secretly I thought, “Maybe even I can do this.” I often say I didn’t discover Take Shape for Life: it tracked me down and rubbed my face in the gravel!
I couldn’t believe how easy it was. I was mad nobody had told me about this before. What happened along the journey was that I got very excited about getting healthy and realized that this program is not only about reaching an ideal weight, but also about falling in love with getting healthy all over. I also realized it wasn’t just about me. It was about a vision to get the world healthy. It was about helping people believe in themselves again, to regain (or find for the first time) confidence in themselves to get their bodies to the healthiest spot they could be. To find that allusive sweet spot of their perfect weight, BMI, and positive mental outlook without pills, drugs, crazy fad diets or surgeries.
To date, I have helped over 50 people drop more than 2,000 pounds. I am grateful for that. But I’m not stopping there. As a health coach, I hope to double that between now and June 2013.
I am a writer and am currently working on a book looking at the lives of over 20 people who’ve dropped 100 pounds or over on different programs. I look at their revealed secrets to keeping the weight off this final time. It’s called Bigger Than Me: When Physical Transformation Becomes a Metaphysical Makeover.
